Telford MP Lucy Allan has hit out at mistakes made at dealing with with Child Sexual Exploitation, revealing that she has had to “challenge” many of the authorities who should be dealing with such crimes.
The town of Telford is just one of many places around the UK that has seen the scandal of grooming gangs emerge.
In December, four men in Telford were found guilty of abusing a girl from the age of just 13.
Telford’s MP Lucy Allan, who has long campaigned to highlight the issue of CSE, told Westmonster today: “In standing up for victims of CSE in Telford I have had to challenge police, council, and CPS (vigorously).
“What was clear, from the cases I worked on, was that attitudes towards victims and a failure to understand grooming lay at the heart of the problem. This is now generally accepted.
“We can’t pretend any of these bodies got it right. They didn’t.”
