Hundreds of migrants have come across the English Channel or been stopped by French officials over the weekend as the issue of illegal immigration escalates amid warm weather during lockdown.
227 migrants were picked up by Border Force officials on Friday and Saturday. A record 145 were picked up on a single day in 8 separate boats, including 51 people on a single vessel.
Saturday saw another 82 migrants picked up by British officials, whilst the French authorities stopped another 77 migrants from crossing.
A Home Office Spokesman has said: “Individuals were brought to Dover and, in line with established processes, were assessed to establish whether there are any medical requirements.”
Brexit Leader Nigel Farage, who has consistently sought to highlight the problem, said yesterday: “Not all migrant boats were stopped today. People have just been detained moving on foot near Dungeness.
“How many more are there we don’t know about?”
